Satellite Meeting: Beyond the Barrier: Advanced Microscopy of Pathogens in High-Biosafety-Containment Laboratories

Registration:

Microscopy in high-biosafety-containment laboratories, such as Biosafety Level 3 (BSL3) laboratories, is critical to infectious disease research. Imaging in BSL3 laboratories is required for the discovery of therapies against pathogens, for diagnostics and for the development of early response strategies against emerging pathogens. In this sense, a well-equipped and well-operated imaging infrastructure in BSL3 laboratories is a strategic resource in the interest of both the research community and public health.

The Center for Integrative Infection Diseases Research (CIID) in Heidelberg, together with the CSSB Hamburg, have initiated the DFG-funded “Gerätezentrum” Heidelberg-Hamburg Infectious Diseases Imaging Association (HHH-IDIA), which has the goal to provide advanced imaging infrastructure in BSL3 laboratories and to further technological developments to adapt microscopy equipment to the specific needs in BSL3 laboratories.
The Satellite Meeting aims to bring together high-biosafety-containment and imaging experts to discuss scientific and technological developments and future needs. The meeting will also serve as kick-off event for the HHH-IDIA project, which will be presented to the public.
